AI As my Man Of The Year 2025

Every year, as the calendar turns and humanity pauses to reflect, I undertake a personal tradition – naming my Man of the Year. It is a symbolic title, not bound by flesh or blood, gender or geography. My Man of the Year need not be a human being. It could be an idea, an event, an incident, a force, or a phenomenon—anything that most shaped human conversation, consciousness, and conduct in the year under review.
This is not an award for virtue alone, nor is it a celebration of popularity for its own sake. Rather, it is a recognition of impact.
My Man of the Year must meet three simple but profound criteria:
1. It must be somebody or something that dominated conversations in Nigeria, Africa and the globe —on news platforms, in policy rooms, in classrooms, workplaces, and in living rooms. It must be impossible to ignore.
2. It must have altered the way humans live, work, think, or relate to one another. Not marginally, but fundamentally.
3. It must be somebody or something that future generations will look back on and say, “That was a turning point.”
By these standards, there is, for me, no serious contender for 2025 other than Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Why AI Is My Man of the Year 2025
In 2025, Artificial Intelligence ceased to be a futuristic buzzword and became a daily companion to humanity. AI was not merely talked about; it was used. It wrote essays and laws, diagnosed illnesses, detected fraud, composed music, edited films, translated languages, drove cars, and reshaped entire industries.

Governments debated it. Workers feared it. Students relied on it. Corporations raced to dominate it. Philosophers questioned it. Religious leaders pondered its implications. No invention in recent history has generated such universal fascination, anxiety, hope, and controversy—simultaneously.
AI became the most news-worthy force on earth in 2025, cutting across borders, ideologies, and social classes. Whether you lived in my village, Illah, in Delta State or in Dubai, Mongolia, or even in Mars, AI touched your life—directly or indirectly. That alone earns it the title.
And so AI is my MAN OF THE YEAR 2025
