Whither APC – by Frank Ofili
714 viewsIt was Henry Kissinger, former US diplomat, Secretary of State and National Security Adviser under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, who said that “whatever must happen ultimately should happen immediately”.
From the look of things in the APC at the moment, the party is headed for an implosion. A calamity of sorts! But it was avoidable.
The original APC as put together by its legacy parties of CPC, ACN and ANPP is dead. And it is unfortunate that the mortician is the PDP.
Ironically, APC itself is its own undertaker. It all started when it started admitting into its fold those it had pooh-poohed as looters of the national treasury.
And APC did not stop at admitting these people. It rewarded them with juicy appointments (without conditions), thus leaving original loyal members of the party to their own chagrin.
The current crisis in the party is the result of that mistake. From all indications, the party is heading for the rock.
For 7 years, APC refused to be APC. It refused to develop a character (or even an ideology) different from PDP.
Now I think the youths in the party who have been loyal and patient all these years should no longer wait to be displaced in the ultimate implosion that is bound to happen. Now is the time to demand their rightful place. Now is the time to impose a character on the party.
I say seize the moment, occupy the national secretariat of the party now! Chase away all these grandfathers causing trouble for the party. Use your broom to sweep away all of them now. It is either now or remain subservient for ever.
In a polity where “money’/is the only language understood, do you tink the ” youths” have the financial muscle to displace the “Godfathers” ànd “money bags”?
Good help the APC ” YOUTHS” and I wish them all the best.
