How did Covenant University produce 188 First Class graduates?

How on earth can Convenant University produce 188 First Class graduates in one academic year?

I think government should rigorously regulate all these private universities, especially those of them run by religious bodies.

Surely something is wrong in a university that produced that number of First Class graduates in just one academic year. In my days, a university may never produce a First Class in three to five years, and when it did it was usually not more than two or three, and no doubt they would be truly “hot” students.

So how could Covenant University produce a whopping 188 First Class in one year?

I know as a fact that many who passed through private tertiary institutions in Nigeria are not any better than their counterparts from public schools. In fact, sometimes they are worse, because they find it difficult to fit into the larger society. Worse is that they find it even more difficult to fit into the workplace. And these are so-called First Class degree holders!

Government should begin now to look closely into these privates schools. Even the crazy fees they charge is enough for government to intervene. Parents may be paying for those First Class instead of their wards actually meriting them.

If Covenant University is so good, why is it not in the top 1000 universities in the world?
