BURUTAI AS PMB’S DILEMMA?
547 viewsMajor General Tukur Burutai
President Muhammadu Buhari should handle this General Burutai issue carefully oh.
This government is founded on the tripod of Integrity, transparency and zero tolerance for corruption. It was on those planks that some of us voted him to be our president (not because he is APC). We believed (still believe) he has what it takes to sanitize the corruption-ridden way of doing government business in Nigeria.
A key figure in this administration such as the Chief of Army Staff cannot be involved in allegation of owning multi-million dollar properties abroad without convincing proof of how he got the money to acquire them and still be left intact in his position.
Now, I hear Burutai’s case would be decided by Defence Headquarters. In other words, the government is leaving the Military to determine Burutai’s faith – the same Military he is a high-ranking officer, perhaps even the highest ranking officer.
This is not acceptable to me. Even though I believe Burutai is innocent until proven guilty, I posit that given the anti-corruption crusade of this government, he should be advised to step aside to enable proper investigation to be carried out.
Officials of this government should not be walking the same dishonourable path of Senate President Bukola Saraki who refuses to step aside inspite of his trial for false asset declaration and falsification of Senate rules.
I insist that President Buhari should either sack or suspend General Burutai as Chief of Army Staff pending outcome of investigation. If he comes clean on conclusion of investigation, he can still be re-appointed. There is nothing that says this cannot happen
That the guy is a first class war commander who has contributed immensely to the near-defeat of Boko Haram terrorists should not be allowed to influence decision in this matter. He can be appropriately rewarded on that score when the time comes.
But on this Dubai Properties matter? It is too delicate not to be handled decisively. Na so I see am oh.
