A Senate of infamy
302 viewsIt is surely a sign of the tyranny of Saraki’s leadership of the National Assembly that even PDP no longer knows how to play politics. If it does, it should know that now is the time to push for Saraki’s impeachment so that Ekweremadu can become Senate President, at least even for one day
It is even more baffling that out of the 109-member Senate, the remaining 107 (that is exclusing Saraki’s Man Friday, Dino Melaye), do not see anything wrong in allowing a man who is serially linked to one unlawful act or the other to remain their legislative head.
But the reason is not far-fetched really. Senator Ali Ndume merely asked that the Senate investigate allegation of certificate scandal trending in the media against one of their own – Senator Dino Melaye (Saraki’s hatchet man), and he was suspended. Omo-Agege exercised his right to personal opinion and he was similarly suspended, although that has now been quashed by a court.
So, in a nutshell, it is not difficult to understand why no Senator is moving a motion for the Senate to investigate the allegation of the Offa bank robbers against the Senate President.
Nor is it difficult for anyone to understand why none of them is pushing for either his impeachment or that he steps aside pending conclusion of investigation.
Is it not curious that a Senate that does not hesitate to investigate everyday issues falling within the purview of the Police (e.g. the sex-for-mark scandal against an Obafemi Awolowo University lecturer) will not investigate a weighty allegation against its leader by the Offa bank robbers who murdered 33 Nigerians in a broad daylight robbery operation?
Those 33 Nigerians probably voted for some of the Senators. Yet none of the law makers feels touched enough to ask that an investigation be conducted.
It is said that evil triumphs where good men keep mum. Evil is currently triumphing in Nigeria’s Senate. Saraki’s reign of intimidation and bribery to keep his position has rendered the 8th Senate an assemblage of men and women without honour.
