CLINTON VS TRUMP: MORE MUD LESS ARTICULATION

If ever there was any issueless election campaign in the history of the United States of America, this is it. Both Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton and her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump, are each going for the jugular of the other instead of telling Americans and the world what they intend to do if voted into the White House. It is like a recast of the last Presidential election in Nigeria.
I have been watching and listening to each address Americans in their campaigns and I must confess I am a bit disappointed. I am yet to hear any talk seriously about serious issues such as global terrorism, global warming, global corruption, regional security and world peace.
I am also yet to hear any of them articulate their African policy and response to increasing Russian influence. Trump, in my opinion, has been the more lamentable with his crude, sarcastic and often times insensitive anti-Africa and anti-Arab comments.
But if Trump could be considered a misfit for the White House, Hillary Clinton’s more amenable profile is certainly not because she has done a better job. Three things seem to be working for her. These are the reputation of her husband; the open support of incumbent President Barack Obama, and the most importantly, the fact that she is a female presidential candidate, the first in the history of the United States of America.
Trump on the other hand appeals to the extreme right-wing Americans, who like Hitler’s Germany, see a redeemer in him. Even without diplomatic finesse required in today’s world, Trump is seen by the right-wing as a man who could call the bluff of Russia in global politics. And that precisely is my worry.
With Brexit, which to all intents and purposes, would most likely push the UK to recoil and become even more conservative, Russia and North Korea would most likely want to advance their assertiveness in global politics. With a Donald Trump in the White House, Africa and the other Third World countries would be severely exposed, especially as China is more interested in economics than politics.
I hope Americans have seen through Donald Trump. A Donald Trump in the White House would be something close to a 21st Century Hitler.
