Sowore misfired – by Frank Ofili
329 viewsIf you have been sharing 2011 news links that Buhari called for a revolution, then you are simply dishonest. Or intellectually lazy. Or both
People share links without any attempt to even open them to read first.
Buhari used the word “revolution” in a different context. He said Nigerians should use 2011 general elections as a revolution to vote in the right people into offices.
That is different from someone who planned a revolution to change a government that emerged after an election he participated in and lost.
Much as I opine that the government should not have arrested Sowore simply because I believe that the polity is already over-heated, and that the man himself is deluded in his mission, insofar as he has not mustered a broad coalition that could effect the kind of change he wants, it is simply dishonest to claim that the man never committed any offence.
If you live in the US and issue the kind of threat Sowore issued to the government of the day, you would end up in Guantanamo Bay. If in Russia, you would end up in Siberia; or even shot.
Calling for a revolution is treason. And saying that your mission is (1) to bundle an elected president out of office, (2) that you do not give a damn what the law says, and (3) that by August 5 the DSS and the other agencies of state would cease to exist, are even more treasonable.
There is no government anywhere in the world that would receive these threats and not act. That would be irresponsible. We already have enough insecurity problem in Nigeria. We do not want to add more.
