President Mohammadu Buhari
There is no doubt that President Muhammadu Buhari is doing his best to fix things, but I see that his party, the APC is not giving him enough support.
What I see in APC is too much politics instead of helping the President to provide real governance. I see APC bigwigs positioning for 2019 already when they have not even maximized the opportunity of 2015. I see APC egg-heads staying aloof waiting for things to get out of control, then they would change their colour yet again.
I ask myself, how is it that a party would leave its own government midstream? How is it that a party would watch things go awry under its government and not do anything about it?
May be Mr President himself is responsible for this. May be not; or may be there is some other unknown reason. One thing no one can deny though is that the President is honestly doing his best. His anti-corruption crusade may be making some people in APC uncomfortable.
I believe that rather than abandon him to his crusade, APC chieftains should join him. After all they knew the man well enough before he became President. The man made it clear before he was chosen as APC flag bearer that he would go after corruption if he became president. Now he is president and going after corruption, it will be to the glory of APC if he succeeds.
So rather than do to Buhari what some PDP chieftains did to Jonathan, APC and its power elites should rally round the President. All the underground scheming I'm seeing everywhere towards forming another political party will not do anyone any good. APC's chance of salvaging itself from becoming a one-term party lies with the Buhari administration, and so far it should count itself lucky that the opposition is itself divided and directionless at the moment – a situation it ought to leverage to maximum advantage.
