Dogara again? – Frank Ofili21 views
Honourable Yakubu Dogara, as House Speaker spent all his time in the 8th NASS sabotaging the efforts of the APC federal government.
Together with the President of the then Senate, Bukola Saraki, they almost brought the government, their own party government, to its knees. Truth is both were opposition party moles and only formerly defected to rejoin their kit and kin in the opposition PDP when it seemed to them that they had significantly weakened the ruling party enough to guarantee a defeat in the 2019 general election
But a shock awaited them. Buhari and the APC retained power while Saraki and his Man Friday, Dino Melaye, were rejected at the polls. A hitherto unknown political movement, O’to ge ensured Saraki got trounced. Dogara however was lucky to win a reelection under PDP. But he lost his seat as Speaker of the House.
And now I hear the same Dogara has jumped back to APC – the same party he not only condemned but openly sabotaged
Not that I am surprised. I have since learnt that politicians have neither shame nor integrity in their political lexicon. After all, an Oshiomhole is currently eating his vomit on Ize-Iyamu.
It is of no use asking what Dogara forgot in the APC that he now wants to retrieve. What bothers me is that the APC has no qualms whatsoever accepting him back into its fold.
What possible political capital is a turncoat like Dogara bringing to the party? Dogara’s return to APC can only create more liability for the party. Only Dogara stands to gain.
Why do I say so? As is now the hallmark of the APC to score deadly own-goals, I won’t be surprised if he is rewarded with a vice presidential or a senatorial ticket in 2023. If he is gifted a senatorial ticket, he won’t stop there, he would go for Senate President. Either way, it is sure to guarantee a disillusionment of party loyalists who would be overlooked. This is where the trouble would come from.
I just hope APC is reading between the lines. I hope it has learnt its lessons
