On Aisha Buhari – by Frank Ofili10 views
I really admire Aisha Buhari. She has a way of publicly voicing her concerns whenever she feels something in her husband’s administration is not right.
She knows her husband cannot possibly know everything happening in his government. Her way of going public may be perceived as an embarrassment to her husband, but I see it as a way of putting the men and around the President on their toes. It may even be what she has agreed with her husband.
Here is a woman who has shown that besides being the President’s wife, she is first of all a Nigerian and feels what the ordinary man on the street feels.
She is a woman who is concerned about her husband’s place in history. Her occasional salvos may be a way of asking the public to help her mount pressure on the husband to look into certain things having herself tried and failed in the “other room”.
If other First Ladies before her acted the way she is acting, Nigeria won’t today be in a mess. Those who insult her each time she raises her voice miss the point.
Aisha Buhari’s occasional public expression of her concerns are a matriachal intervention in our body polity. Kudos Madam First Lady
