Casualties of the Osborne Dollars11 views
I have just heard with one ear that President Buhari has suspended from office SGF Babachir Lawal and boss of NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke.
Allah be praised. At last. I have written two pieces urging the President to suspend the SGF for his involvement in the grass-cutting scandal pending investigation. The President has listened at last. Thank God
But the SGF should not simply be suspended from office or sacked. If he is found culpable he should be prosecuted too. The war on corruption is too important to be compromised.
And for Ambassador Oke, he should not just be suspended from office; he should be arrested and kept in solitary confinement. Illegally Warehousing foreign currencies worth billions of Naira in the name of covert operation is one thing, hiding such covert operation from the Commander-in-Chief and NSA is another. It is treason.
Such so-called covert operation must be against the interests of Nigeria for it to be hidden from the President. Even in situations requiring plausible deniability, a Commander-in-Chief is not completely kept in the dark if the operation is in national interest.
Ambassador Oke has a lot to answer for in this case. He should be arrested to aid investigation.
Now, I have heard it whispered that Mr. Fix It’s daughter, Patricia, owns the apartment where the stash of cash was discovered. This should be investigated and if found true, she too, should be arrested. She must have a good reason for housing such huge amount of cash.
More to the point, she must know the source and the eventual beneficiary of the stash.
Which brings me to this. Yesterday, I read Mr. Fix It admitting that the party of which he was chair of the BOT, destroyed Nigeria and that President Buhari is trying to repair it – a task for which he should be supported. I had wondered what had happened that the Uromi high chief would now turn against the party he superintended over like a colossus.
Could it be that his daughter’s alleged connection to the Osborne dollars informed his new-found love for Buhari? Was he seeking soft landing for his daughter through the back door?
We may never know. Let the investigations begin. I have a feeling that the Osborne Dollars is replicated in other places. All in the name of covert operation. A non-existent covert operation.
